Thanks for your efforts on this website.
I lived in Alabama for 8 years, but that was 10 years ago. I had not heard the term ‘The Late Unpleasantness’ until living in Alabama. I thought the term provided a wonderful insight into the culture in which I chose to live. The more elderly residents used the term in a ‘current way’. The ‘New South’ residents(Baby Boomers and their children and grandchildren) certainly knew and used the term, but in more of an historical context – almost with their index fingers providing ‘quote marks’ in their conversation.
